Content Design Lead (Volunteer Opportunity)

We're looking for a digital content expert to work with our user experience team to create great user journeys across the Pride in London website and app.

Around 200 people volunteer every year to help us deliver what has become a world-class Pride, and we’re looking for a content design whizz to come join us.

Pride's website and app cater for many different types of users who want to do different things. A community group may want to find out about how to take part in the Parade, whereas a journalist might want to find out about our position on a recent government announcement. We want to get users to the information they need quickly, and help them to discover the other great work Pride is doing that they may be interested in.

It's important that we test and iterate this content to ensure that it is easy to find, clear and up to date. We're looking for someone to own the strategy of how we execute this, lead a team of content volunteers to make it happen, and to work with our User Research and Analytics teams to validate that we've succeeded.

You'll be the voice of customer experience in Comms, working with the Head of Content to create and roll out our content strategy across digital platforms.

Day to day though, you'll work on digital projects within the Digital team. Projects could be anything from creating our campaign story to accepting applications for our Unity Fund.

In this role you'll be:

  • Leading a team producing digital and creative content, making sure that the output is high quality, meets content guidelines and is SEO optimised
  • Defining the strategy for content design across Pride and the principles we take when designing new user journeys
  • Building a content calendar of updates across our digital platforms and ensuring these are executed on time and to scope
  • Working with our Product and Design team to enhance the UX of our website and app user journeys with content
  • Working with our Data team to measure and improve the effectiveness of our content

What you get out of it

  • The chance to prove that a volunteer organisation can produce effective content with limited time and resources
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team of content professionals
  • The chance to work on end to end multi-disciplinary projects and learn from Analytics, Design, Product, Project Management, Tech and User Research experts
  • Experience in defining and executing a customer experience strategy for a human rights organisation that is also one of London's biggest events
  • A nice feeling, knowing you're using your skills to make a difference

Time commitment

As a Lead we ask for a bit more time than other volunteers at around 6-8 hours per week. It's easiest to think of it as two evenings each week or a full day at the weekend dedicated to Pride. We do our best to work asynchronously so you can break work up throughout the week as you choose, but do need a meeting or two a week to solve problems or make decisions together.

About Pride in London

Pride in London means many things to many people, it belongs to our community and it belongs to you; come and join the conversation!

Pride in London has a renewed sense of purpose to highlight the challenges still facing the LGBT+ community today despite progress. We are run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity and are drawn from all walks of life. Pride aims to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow all of our community to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.

Around 250 people volunteer year-round to help us deliver what has become a world-class Pride. It is our intention for Pride in London to best represent all parts of our community and we continue to actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly women, People of Colour and those from the trans and non-binary communities. All applications are important to us so if you’d like to be part of the future of Pride in London please register your interest or share this opportunity with your network.

Or, know someone who would be a perfect fit? Let them know!

Our Culture

Our volunteers are driven and passionate about what they do. Putting on one of London's largest one-day events requires dedication and perseverance.

Although a lot of our work is completed remotely, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet with your team and others throughout the year to not only plan what's ahead but to socialise too.

We're looking for enthusiastic people to join the organisation so we can provide a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community.
