Your Pride In London

Pride in London means many things to many people, it belongs to our community and it belongs to you; come and join the conversation!

Pride in London has a renewed sense of purpose to highlight the challenges still facing the LGBT+ community today despite progress. We are run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity and are drawn from all walks of life. Pride aims to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow all of our community to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.

Around 250 people volunteer year-round to help us deliver what has become a world-class Pride. It is our intention for Pride in London to best represent all parts of our community and we continue to actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly women, People of Colour and those from the trans and non-binary communities. All applications are important to us so if you’d like to be part of the future of Pride in London please register your interest or share this opportunity with your network.

What we are looking for

We're after a seasoned design leader to join the Digital team who is passionate about inclusivity and accessibility to help us serve the LGBTQ+ community better. Over the past few years we've created our own bespoke website and app from the ground up. Now that we've got a great foundation to build on, we're beginning to test and experiment with new ideas to help support our community year round.

The Digital team is focused on understanding our user needs and behaviours so that we can build the right solutions to solve their problems. Whether that's a year round events platform or this very volunteer application site, we are working away in the background to constantly create, learn and evolve it.

In this role you'll be:

  • Evolve our design practice, iterating and documenting our methodology as you go
  • Develop and maintain our design system and digital brand
  • Hands on, so should demonstrate the high standards of design, prototyping and documentation expected from the rest of the team
  • Collaborate with the Research team, and understandPrepare for and lead user research and testing sessions
  • Work in cross-functional teams to solve design problems and implement feedback from stakeholders
  • Coach, mentor and train other designers while overseeing their projects when needed e.g. running regular Peer Review sessions
  • Prioritising and planning out design resource to meet roadmap objectives and on-going projects

What you get out of it:

  • To experiment with new software and/or design methodologies
  • Peer review of your work from other designers to help you upskill and improve your work
  • The chance to take part in and learn about areas of the design system you've less experience in e.g. usability testing
  • The opportunity to define the digital experience with the second largest event in London
  • Develop skills working with other departments, managing and mentorship others, and working within a product team.

How much time we need:
As a Lead we ask for a bit more time than other volunteers at around 6-8 hours per week. It's easiest to think of it as two evenings each week or a full day at the weekend dedicated to Pride. We do our best to work asynchronously so you can break work up throughout the week as you choose, but do need a meeting or two a week to solve problems or make decisions together.

What you’ll get joining Pride in London

  • A friendly and welcoming induction course and a variety of training that’s offered throughout the year
  • An opportunity to get new and relevant professional experience
  • A chance to broaden your professional network
  • Play an important part in delivering the Pride in London event
  • Social opportunities to meet the diverse and friendly bunch who volunteer for Pride in London

  • Remote status

    Temporarily remote

Our Culture

Our volunteers are driven and passionate about what they do. Putting on one of London's largest one-day events requires dedication and perseverance.

Although a lot of our work is completed remotely, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet with your team and others throughout the year to not only plan what's ahead but to socialise too.

We're looking for enthusiastic people to join the organisation so we can provide a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community.
