Your Pride In London
2022 marked the 50th anniversary of Pride in the UK and we are now planning for the future, making it an exciting time to join Pride in London as a volunteer.
Pride in London has a renewed sense of purpose to highlight the challenges still facing the LGBT+ community today despite progress. We are run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity and are drawn from all walks of life. Pride aims to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow all of our community to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.
Around 150 people volunteer year-round to help us deliver what has become a world-class Pride. It is our intention for Pride in London to best represent all parts of our community.
We continue to actively encourage applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly women, people of colour and those from the trans and non-binary communities.
The role:
Our website serves as a window to the world and should be a leading lgbt+ digital platform. We want to take it to the next level ensuring that it is responsive to our ever evolving event, the Pride movement and LGBT+ communities.
We are looking for a passionate, talented head of website development to join our volunteer team who will be responsible for web development, leading build, coding, digital design, programming and audience engagement.
You’ll be adept and confident in managing a team of developers as well as selecting, motivating and training volunteers.
Your role:
- Lead web development scoping, planning, and technical architecture for all projects involving UI.
- Manage a small development team to ensure technical quality, product quality, and efficient use of resources.
- Take a hands-on development approach to creating new pages and features across the whole stack, with a specific focus on the presentation layer.
- Perform code reviews and provide feedback on all internal and external code.
- Maintain relationships and connections to other teams to ensure that integrations are maintained and enhanced.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new technology that is beneficial to the digital goals of the organization.
- Perform root cause analysis on product and process deficiencies, and define and implement changes.
- Ensure the development team is effectively engaged and that products in development match resources available.
- Regularly communicate with the marketing and communications teams to discuss direction, strategy, and priority.
Your Profile:
- 5+ years of web development, including experience on large-scale web products
- 2+ years managing a development team and technology vendors.
- Strong knowledge of the modern web environment–from the presentation tier (HTML/CSS/OO-JS) through webservers and caching, reasonable knowledge of server-side development including PHP and database development, and the management of hosting infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of Accessibility – understanding the legal requirements to ensure that Pride in London maintain an accessible website

Although a lot of our work is completed remotely, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet with your team and others throughout the year to not only plan what's ahead but to socialise too.

Pride in London is wholly run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity. We are a not-for-profit organisation, and any surplus funds we raise are used to support the LGBT+ communities and improve the event.
Pride in London includes people of every race and faith, whether disabled or able-bodied, and all sexualities and genders including lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, queer, questioning, intersex, trans*, genderqueer, gender variant or non-binary as well as straight and cis allies.
