Head of Media (Volunteer role)

About Pride in London

Pride in London is wholly run by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity. We are a not-for-profit organisation, and any surplus funds we raise are used to support the LGBTQ community and improve the event.

Together, we run the UK’s biggest, most diverse pride, and our job is to make sure we provide a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, queer, questioning, intersex, non-binary, asexual, polysexual, genderqueer and gender variant people) to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues and campaign for the freedoms that will allow them to live their lives on a genuinely equal footing.

Pride in London includes people of every race and faith, whether disabled or able-bodied, and all sexualities and genders including lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, queer, questioning, intersex, trans*, genderqueer, gender variant or non-binary as well as straight and cis allies.

Around 250 people volunteer year-round to help us deliver what has become a world-class Pride. We are already a pretty diverse bunch, but we are looking to add to our diversity and are especially keen to receive applications from the BAME, Trans, Bi, Non-binary and Queer communities. Gender equality is always a key consideration for us.

Your new volunteer role

As Head of Media you’ll lead the team responsible for planning and delivering all of our advertising media. In practice this means you’ll work on a strategy to activate Pride in London campaigns (previous examples include Pride Jubilee, No Filter and Love Happens Here) across various mediums and platforms. You’ll need strong negotiation skills to ensure the campaign is as cost effective as possible and guarantees Pride in London the exposure required to make us the UK’s biggest free LGBT event.

 Day to day responsibilities:

  • To blag, buy, plan and deliver all of Pride in London's advertising media
  • Build and nurture relationships with media owners including Channel 4, ITV, Facebook, Google and a full range of media owners and partners across out-of-home, print, radio, digital and cinema
  • Strategically plan all of Pride in London's media, working closely with the Deputy Director of Marketing and Head of Marketing Campaigns to ensure media and creative are closely aligned
  • Deliver and manage iconic media moments such as TV launches and the Piccadilly Lights takeover
  • Measure the value and impact of Pride in London's media
  • If Pride in London chooses to work with media agencies and 3rd parties you’ll be responsible for negotiating and managing those relationships
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Media Partnerships
  • Build a relationship with relevant LGBT+ industry and networking groups

Who you are

You’ll have a strong professional background in Media or at a Media agency, ideally at a mid-senior level. You’ll be a self starter with a broad network of industry professionals we can leverage to support campaign development for Pride in London. Ideally, you will also have some background in delivering results through a team you have managed.

Your profile

  • Great relationship building skills, as this role will be building and owning partnerships with a large number of media owners
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Project management; ensuring all copy/creative is delivered to media partners on time and in the correct format
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite

This is a role that requires long-term commitment. Time required will be approximately 16hrs per month, increasing in the final month leading up to Pride in London fortnight.

What you’ll get joining Pride in London

  • An induction course and a variety of training that’s offered throughout the year
  • An opportunity to get new and relevant professional and leadership experience
  • A chance to broaden your professional network
  • Play a crucial role in delivering the Pride in London event
  • Social opportunities to meet the diverse and friendly bunch who volunteer for Pride in London

Deadline for applications: 1st October 2020

Our Culture

Our volunteers are driven and passionate about what they do. Putting on one of London's largest one-day events requires dedication and perseverance.

Although a lot of our work is completed remotely, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet with your team and others throughout the year to not only plan what's ahead but to socialise too.

We're looking for enthusiastic people to join the organisation so we can provide a platform for every part of London’s LGBT+ community.
