Our incredible team is a blend of passionate staff and volunteers who champion diversity, inclusivity, and understanding. We hail from diverse walks of life, forming a vibrant community of change-makers. Our ultimate goal? To amplify awareness of LGBTQ+ matters and advocate for the rights that ensure equal lives for all.
With a diverse and dedicated year-round team of around 150 volunteers, we orchestrate Pride in London, the incredible event that unites us all. Your unique voice can contribute to the symphony!

Your Role

The Director of Communications will lead Pride in London’s communications strategy,
ensuring the organisation’s message, voice, and values are clearly represented across all
internal and external channels. This role is critical in maintaining Pride in London’s
reputation, driving engagement with diverse audiences, and amplifying the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community throughout the year.
The postholder will oversee a team of volunteer communications professionals covering
media relations, public affairs, content creation, and digital storytelling.
This role reports to The Board and CEO
Time Commitment & Term
Approx. 6–8 hours per week (with higher engagement in the run-up to Pride season).
Voluntary appointment, renewable subject to review.
Attendance at monthly Senior Leadership Team meetings and Board updates.
Your Responsibilities
Develop and deliver an integrated communications strategy that reflects Pride in London’s mission, values, and community impact.
Oversee all public communications, including media relations, press releases, social media, website content, newsletters, and campaign materials.
Act as the organisation’s key media contact and spokesperson, where appropriate.
Manage crisis and reputation communications in coordination with the CEO and Board.
Ensure consistent and inclusive messaging across all channels and activities.
Support the development of creative and impactful campaigns that amplify LGBTQ+ voices and highlight Pride in London’s year-round work.
Build and maintain relationships with media partners, journalists, community organisations, and key stakeholders.
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the volunteer communications team.
Collaborate with the wider Senior Leadership Team to ensure communications align with strategic and operational goals.
Monitor and evaluate communications effectiveness and audience engagement, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
What you'll bring to Pride in London
Essential
Proven experience in communications, public relations, media, or marketing (voluntary or professional).
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong understanding of media relations and digital engagement strategies.
Ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate volunteer teams.
Good judgement, diplomacy, and discretion in handling sensitive communications.
Commitment to Pride in London’s values of visibility, unity, and equality.
Desirable
Experience in the non-profit, community, or event sector.
Understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, culture, and advocacy.
Experience with brand management, creative direction, or campaign planning.
Crisis communications or public affairs experience.

Although a lot of our work is completed remotely, there will be plenty of opportunities to meet with your team and others throughout the year to not only plan what's ahead but to socialise too.

Pride in London is run in majority by a group of volunteers who are passionate about equality and diversity. We are a not-for-profit organisation, and any surplus funds we raise are used to support the LGBTQ+ communities and improve the event.
Pride in London includes people of every race and faith, whether disabled or able-bodied, and all sexualities and genders including lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, queer, questioning, intersex, trans*, genderqueer, gender variant or non-binary as well as straight and cis allies.
